Tsunamis!!!This term we have been researching on a topic that we had an interest in. But, the topic had to have something to do with Natural Disasters. This term I have learned lot from researching about Tsunamis.
My Question was: What causes Tsunami’s?After lots of researching, I have found the answer and it has really surprised me that there was a really simple experiment that explains everything.
The Answer was:
A Tsunami can be generated when converging and destructive plate boundaries move and vertically displace overlying water. Underwater earthquakes, landslides, explosions, volcanic eruptions and testing nuclear weapons in the sea or large body of water.
Along the rings (Ring of Fire) edges, giant slabs of earth crusts called tectonic plates collide together. The plates suddenly come apart and then slam into a new position. This jolt causes an earthquake. If the earthquake lifts or drops on an ocean floor, the water above starts moving too. This triggers a Tsunami.
If you have ever thrown a pebble or stone into a lake or a pond, and watched the ripples surround, you’ve seen this principle work.
Doesn’t this look scary? It is a tsunami swirling angrily!
Did you know that some survivors have said that they had heard a sucking sound accompanying some big waves just before the Tsunami! ![]()

Hi Momtahina,
Those things do cause tsunamis. An underwater earthquake caused the biggest tsunami

There is such thing as a volcanic tsunami you know.
What is the most common thing to cause tsunamis? And why?
